Forward Montana Foundation (FMF) is seeking a communications consultant to help us define and execute a messaging strategy and communications campaign around building a better, more equitable Montana. The communications consultant will specifically work under FMF’s redistricting and judicial programming. If you have experience writing or developing content, feel passionate about redistricting or courts, or have a love for a free & fair democracy — this might be the job for you!

Job Description

The communications consultant will be responsible for raising public awareness about the importance of the courts system and redistricting process by developing messaging that resonates with Montanans.

Deliverables include:

  • Building a base of supporters who are willing to take action for a free and fair Montana by developing content and executing a digital organizing campaign (no graphic design experience required)
  • Developing error-free email blasts
  • Producing Tweets
  • Pitching earned media
  • Developing the language for online petitions
  • Drafting and placing Letters to the Editor (LTEs) and OpEds

Expertise on judicial independence and redistricting is not a requirement for this position — a willingness to learn & use the tone and writing style of Forward Montana Foundation is.

We understand this scope of work includes both redistricting and judicial independence — those who would prefer to just work on one scope of the project or have a specific expertise they think would be most helpful to one area are still encouraged to apply. We’re open to working with two different communications professionals and/or teams but would prefer someone who’d be willing to take on both.

We anticipate the entirety of this project taking 50-60 hours over the course of the next 6-8 weeks. Total budget for completion of tasks above is in the range of $7,000 – $10,000 (not including additional costs — videographer, digital ads, etc).

To Apply:

Please send a brief cover letter indicating your communications experience and why you’d be a good fit for this project along with 2-4 samples of your previous work to Program Director, Amara Reese-Hansell at amara@forwardmontana.org.
